7/9/2023 - The Final Countdown!

- Written by Los Triángulos (Maddie, Clark, Tegan, and Kennedy)

Today started with breakfast at 7:30. We had some eggs, beans and rice, along with some really good watermelon and pineapple. After breakfast we headed to the lab to continue our group projects. Team Preston and the S’s are researching what type of vegetation the Leaf-cutter ants prefer. Los Triángulos are researching if Pseudonocardia, the antibiotic the leaf-cutter ants grow, can kill bacteria found on human hands. Team Nibs is testing to see if different parts of a coffee plant can act as repellent of leaf-cutter ants for the cacao trees. Team MEAT is testing to see which depth of soil has the most bacteria.

After working for a while we went back for lunch. For lunch we had a rice and heart of palm casserole with sides of plaintain chips and chicken with onions. After lunch we got a break. Many of us went to the local convenience store to get some treats while some stayed and got to hang out for a bit.

Once the break was over we went back to the lab for the afternoon session. During this time we finished our Escovopsis lab and continued our group experiments. Halfway through the afternoon we got a coffee/hot chocolate break. They were both very delicious! Along with that we got to enjoy some chicken and rice empanadas.

Then we went back to eat a quick supper of tacos before returning to the lab to finalize our presentations. We present our experimental findings and our methods tomorrow morning! Then on Tuesday we are off to the beach!
