7/4/2023 - Happy Fourth!

 Hello from Costa Rica!!

“Congratulations on Independence Day!🦅”

  • Ibrahim, our research advisor for the day

We are well and thriving, a little tired but slaying the day away

This morning after breakfast we went on a hike around one of the buildings and looked at the river. Carolyn was our group leader and she is really knowledgeable about all the different plants and animals we came across in the hike. 🧚‍♂️

After we got back, we listened to Pablo about the history behind the cacao plant. He showed us how cocoa nibs are made and discussed the ingredients that work well together🫘. We tried all the different types of chocolates (28,72,86,92%) as well as some pralines made by the amazing chefs.

After lunch we drove over the the lab; Ibrahim and Miguel gave us a bunch of background info on ants and then we came up with a little experiment so we were better. Our team is resting bacteria on sink handles Vs toilet handles!

We get the night off tonight so we are going to get to chill at the cabin for the night!

Our volcanic view from breakfast! Rincon de la Vieja

Beautiful flowers everywhere!

Our group hike this morning!

Sampling freshly roasted cacao nibs and dark chocolate! (Pablo says chocolate with "cow juice" is not real chocolate!)

We spent the afternoon at the research station getting ready to research! Rain rolls in fast, but the view from the station is beautiful!
